What’s in Season – Be a Locavore
Be a Locavore
A locavore is someone who consumes foods from local producers (their own garden, farmers, growers and food sheds commonly within a 100-250 mile radius of their home. By eating locally, locavores support their local economy, and reduce their intake of industrialized and processed foods which generally have less nutritional value and a larger carbon footprint. The local food movement (also also referred to as regional food, or food patriotism) is a “collaborative effort to build more locally based, self-reliant food economies – one in which sustainable food production, processing, distribution, and consumption is integrated to enhance the economic, environmental and social health of a particular place” and is considered to be a part of the broader sustainability effort.Want to be more of a locavore?
